This public art bus stop installation playfully reimagines the transit experience, blurring the line between living room and public space. Familiar forms of domestic furniture (sofa, armchair, lamp, etc.) become vibrant 3D illustrations that evoke the welcoming visual language of home. North Ave Living Room pays homage to Baltimore’s stoop culture and the vibrant third places that enliven our neighborhoods.
Built from durable steel, the installation’s vibrant green color leans into the playful, welcoming quality of the pieces, creating intentional contrast with the reserved, institutional colors typically found at transit stops.
A working floor lamp with a rattan-inspired steel lampshade and a chandelier in the bus shelter add accent lighting and add to the whimsical, surreal experience of the stop. Brick pavers frame the new bus stop, arranged in patterns that suggest traditional wood flooring with an area rug at the center.
